Unmanned tuna scouting for purse seiners

TF-100 spots fish signals from the air and assesses the school with its underwater sensors, for almost a week on a single tank.

Challenges

Find the fish ahead of the tuna purse seiner: echosounder below, tethered drone above.

Tuna purse seiners find schools with helicopters, scout vessels, or by steaming to their FADs one by one. Every hour of it burns fuel, crew time and daylight.

  • Helicopters

Costly to fly, grounded by weather, a risk to the crew on board. And they don’t see under the water.

  • Scout vessels

    Manned and fuel-hungry.

  • Steaming to FADs

The tuna purse seiner itself checks every FAD, full or empty.

Capabilities

Fishing

  • Aerial and underwater sensing

Spot from the air, measure from below: one platform for the air, the surface and the water column.

  • Tethered UAV coverage

A tethered drone climbs up to 100 m from the deck hangar and streams live video to the bridge.

  • Tuna school detection

A fish-finding echosounder assesses the school below the surface.

  • Real-time fleet tracking

Hyarks Portal shows every vessel live on the nautical chart: position, route, status and cameras.

Solutions

TF-100 scouts ahead, its tethered drone in the air and its echosounder below; Hyarks Portal puts what it finds on the tuna purse seiner’s bridge.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does TF-100 replace our helicopter?

No, it complements it. It can run alongside a helicopter, and it gives aerial search to vessels without a helideck.

How is it launched and recovered?

Smaller seiners tow it clear of port. Larger seiners launch it with the speedboat davits. It ships in a 20-ft container to any port.

Who sees our fishing data?

Only you. Each client's data is isolated, encrypted in transit and at rest, and owned by the client by contract. An access log shows who connected, from where and when.

Can it help with FAD buoys?

Yes. It can check remote buoys without sending a seiner.

Can we start with a trial?

Yes. Trials start at three months and can extend to a full year.

Does our skipper need technical training?

No. Training happens on board, with visual checklists and short videos.
